Below is a review schedule to help with your child's success in grade 4. Please note that any work assigned is an important supplement to student learning and understanding, and therefore an expectation. Completion of assigned work is not only important for student understanding and review of concepts taught in class, but also impacts learning skills reported on three times throughout the school year. Completion of assigned work, and review of concepts creates good working and study habits that helps set children up for success for the rest of their education. Students are expected to complete each of the following on a regular basis:
Reading
Students should be reading not only at school but at home as well. Reading includes library books, 'How to...' resources, cookbooks, newspapers, books in student's first language, comics, etc.
Spelling word work
Spelling word work (practice spelling words each night) and spelling test each Friday. New words provided each Monday. Spelling word lists to begin in October.
Reading Minute
At the start of the school year, each student is given 6 dates spaced out throughout the school year, in which they will come to school prepared to read for 1 minute in front of the class from a book of their choice. This book can be fiction, non-fiction, from a newspaper article, how-to instructions, magazine, etc. It is important that students practice reading this passage before they present as they are marked for Oral Communication and Reading skills.
Multiplication Practice
Practice Multiplication tables for timed drill test on Mondays. Please see the Mathematics tabs on this website for more information. Multiplication drills begin in term 2, however, students should be able to successfully complete multiplication from 1-5 prior to this unit.
Various projects throughout the school year may require some at home collection of recycleable materials such as paper towel tubes, empty tissue boxes, empty plastic food containers, etc.
